Mapping Emigrant Trails Workshop

August 25-26, 2022

Sun Ranch at Devil's Gate, Wyoming

The Oregon-California Trails Association and the Historic Sites Division of the LDS Church present the Mapping Emigrant Trails Workshop Thursday, August 25 and Friday, August 26. Sun Ranch at Devil's Gate in central Wyoming will be the location for the workshop. The physical address is 47600 West Highway 220, Alcova, WY 82620. The workshop will focus on the basics on mapping emigrant trails, with day one devoted to classroom learning and day two devoted to field experience.

The Ramkota Hotel in Casper is the closest hotel at about one hour away, but there are also about 20 RV sites located five minutes from Sun Ranch. Email [email protected] if you would like an RV site. Contact the Ramkota at (307) 266-6000 to make hotel reservations in Casper. The Ramkota is located at 800 North Poplar, Casper, WY 82601.

Be sure to bring hats, sunscreen, and windbreakers. Though we fully expect sunny skies and 70-degree temperatures, Wyoming weather can be unpredictable in August. We will have water and snacks and lunch will be provided but bring any other food and beverage items you might desire.

  • Covers two days training as well as all drinks, snacks, and lunch each day. Each attendee will also be given a complimentary membership in OCTA for one year.

The Mapping Emigrant Trails book can be downloaded for free on the OCTA website, or an OPTIONAL hard copy can be purchased for $20. We will be selling the books during the workshop. Visit https://octa-trails.org/preservation-training-n/ to download the free version.
